A Dead Simple System for Coming up with Ideas and Writing them Down
It’s called a Daybook — System Strategy #2
I come up with a lot of ideas. The only way I can keep them straight is by writing them down. I find it very tough when I come up with an idea, I don’t write it down and then I try to remember what it is when I finally have my Notebook on me. It’s almost impossible. It was lost to the void, but only because I didn’t take it down.
The Calendar is Centuries old. Nature’s Calendar are the seasons. It makes sense that if Nature itself runs on a timeline, you should too. Calendar help us make sense of the time we have, but it also helps us think about the future unknown, and realize the ideas that come to our minds.
The best way I’ve found to do this is use what’s called a Daybook. It’s estimated that our Brain processes about 34 Gigabytes of data a day, and that we can handle almost 74 Gigabytes. That’s a lot of information. If we don’t take the best of that data and try and store it in long term memory, it gets lost.
So anytime you feel like you brain needs to brainstorm some ideas, take your paper or digital notebook, and flesh out the ideas. We remember more of what we write down physically than we do typing on a virtual keyboard in our phones. I personally use a Digital E-ink tablet to get the best of the analog feeling of writing and the digital capabilities of search and indexing.
Every entry is dated and timestamped, 1 Notebook is equal to 1 Month of Time. Eventually when I have a great Ai system that can index and organize all my notes, I won’t need to do any organizing myself. I’ll just upload my notes and Ai will figure it out for me.
But just the act of getting my notes and ideas down has helped me through a lot of uncertainty. By writing them down, I am able to make visual connections with my previous notes and find patterns that will help me make better insights and posts on social media.
Everyone that is plagued with having a busy brain should adopt this system. It will help you immensely in figuring out who you are and what you should write about, or what to make videos on or just about any other creative endeavor.
